Essentially, your goal is to tune down the problem frequency by moving 1 of the equalizer controls in your equipment. Can’t identify which frequency is the source? Either use a spectrum analyzer or simply toy with the equalizer sliders until you find it. Sometimes you can turn a frequency band down to cut the feedback loop and then slide it back up to a point slightly under the howl. You don’t want to ruin the quality of your output from distortion through unbalanced equalizer settings.

Continue increasing the master gain and tuning out offending frequencies until you have all the volume as you hope for. An average room may require 6 adjustments or more. The problem with ringing the room is going mad with equalizer power – you should stop the ring if you have sufficient volume or many frequencies begin looping or if your sound quality becomes audibly altered.

Last of all, back that attained gain dial down by 8-12 dB to give yourself a little breathing room for feedback. You are likely to produce more volume by as much as ten or even 12 decibel than room. You don’t want to push the gain at the expense of a quality sound, though. And don’t allow any of your secondary volume controls in your machine karaoke system creep up higher than that main gain setting you’ve just achieved.
